Myth, meet reality: straight answers for homeowners

Pest Control Questions, Answered Plainly

Questions

What people ask us

How much does pest control cost?

A lot of people think every home gets the same price. In practice, cost depends on the pest, the size of your home and how many visits are needed. Typical U.S. ranges run from about $100 to $600 for a single treatment. Ongoing plans add up over time. Ask a provider in our network for a written quote.

Do I need to leave my house during treatment?

Many people assume the whole family must move out. For most common pests like ants, spiders and roaches, that is not the case. Providers often ask you to keep kids and pets out of treated rooms for a short time. Some jobs, like certain termite or fumigation work, need more prep. Ask the provider for clear written instructions before the visit, so you can plan around life.

Is pest control safe for kids and pets?

Myth: all treatments are risky around family. In practice, licensed providers use products and methods meant for homes, and many offer lower-impact options. Safety still depends on the product and how it is applied. Tell the provider about children, pets, aquariums and anyone with health concerns. Ask what was used, where it went and how long to stay away from those spots.

Will insurance cover pest damage?

Many homeowners expect a policy to pay for any pest problem. Most policies do not cover slow, ongoing damage like termite feeding. Some policies may cover sudden damage, so check yours and ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage for a claim. Notes and photos first: take dated pictures before anyone touches anything.

How do I know if I have termites?

People often wait for a swarm of bugs. Termites can work quietly for a long time. Look for mud tubes on foundation walls, soft or hollow-sounding wood, sagging floors and discarded wings near windows. Older homes with stone or block foundations and damp basements deserve extra attention. Photograph anything odd and share it when you request an estimate.

Can mice or rats be handled without harming my home?

Some folks think a few traps solve it. Often the real fix is sealing the small gaps where animals get in, then removing them. Cold weather pushes rodents indoors, especially into basements and attics. A provider can inspect entry points, handle removal and suggest repairs. Wildlife removal is usually most effective when the entry points are closed as well.

What should I prepare before an estimate?

You do not need to clean first. Messy evidence actually helps. Take photos of the pests or damage, note where and when you see them, and jot down any droppings, noises or smells. Keep any earlier treatment records. A short list saves time and helps a provider give a more accurate quote.

Do you treat bed bugs, and how does it work?

Luigiplunger Pest Control does not do the treatment. It connects you with independent providers, and many handle bed bug treatment. People think bed bugs mean a dirty home. They do not. They travel on luggage and clothing. Expect an inspection, a prep checklist for laundry and clutter, and often a follow-up visit. Get the plan and price in writing.
